THE REDISCOVERY OF SCIENTIFIC ANIMAL BREEDING SCHOOL IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ORIGIN AND ACCEPTANCE OF MENDEL’S DISCOVERY

The rediscovery of the origin and development of the scientific sheep breeding school in Moravia in the first half of the 18th century reaching its climax in the formulation of the research question of heredity in 1830s, investigated later by Mendel. Elucidated is also the interruption of scientific animal breeding in the changed economical a political situation after 1850 and its renovation after the rediscovery of Mendel’s research in 1900. At that time J. Taufer organized animal breeding in Moravia and created in Brno new scientific bases for teaching and research in animal breeding. For the elaboration Mendel’s theory for the improvement of methods in animal breeding he invited to Brno J. Kříženecký. With these two protagonists is connected the development of scientific animal breeding in Moravia up to 1950. It was interrupted by political intervention in science of heredity. The growth of knowledge in scientific animal breeding in Moravia in 1800—1950 is elucidated in the context of the origin and acceptation of Mendel’s theory.

SECHZIG JAHRE DES BETRIEBS DEN PRAGER PERSONENDAMPFER ANTONÍN ŠVEHLA UND DR. EDVARD BENEŠ (1938—1998)

(60 let provozu pražských osobních parníků Antonín Švehla a dr.
